Ruffin is a small town located in Colleton County, South Carolina, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km²), all land. The population was 220 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Thomas Ruffin, an officer in the American Revolutionary War who served under Francis Marion, also known as the Swamp Fox. Ruffin is home to a few small businesses and a volunteer fire department. The town is located near the Savannah River, and the area is known for hunting and fishing. The nearest larger city is Walterboro, which is about 20 miles away.
